Responsibilities
NYTimes.com is seeking a software developer to work as part of a team to architect and build the software that helps Nytimes.com function as a site of high scale and complexity. The successful candidate is enthusiastic about building out the content offerings and dynamic features of the nytimes.com site and has done significant web programming in the Unix environment.
 
 
-Writing applications and web services to enable users to interact dynamically with the nytimes.com web site
-Integrating a diverse set of data sources including databases, search engines, XML data, and remote services
-Integrating feeds from 3rd parties into the nytimes.com data environment
 
The ideal candidate must have high standards with regard to the finished product and must be concerned about the quality and maintainability of the underlying software. In addition, the ideal candidate possess the ability to design systems, communicate and work effectively with others, write scalable and high quality code, and deliver work on schedule.
 
Necessary skills:
 
-BE/BTECH in Computer Science or a degree in a related field plus Computer Science coursework
-3-6 years web development work experience
-Unix proficiency
-Work Location - Noida
-Strong understanding of object oriented design & programming
-Mastery of at least one modern object oriented language such as PHP (preferred) or Java
-Competency in object oriented JavaScript and prominent libraries such as Prototype and Scriptaculous
-Comfort with Regular Expressions
-Working knowledge of CSS and semantic HTML
-Ability to communicate effectively with business side clients to gather and translate functional specs
-Strong verbal and written communication skills
 
 
 
Desired skills:
 
-Formal software development methodology
-Experience working as part of a large development team
-Experience writing shared and reusable components of code
-Experience designing and tuning applications that scale
-Some background in a structured programming language, such as Java or C/C++
-Strong working knowledge of RDBMS, SQL, PL/SQL, and basic database optimization concepts
-Experience working with XML, XSL, XPath

QUALIFICATION:
 
Platform Engineers: (2 to 6 years Experience) (Relevant Experience)
 
Skill set: Domain expertise in Telecom Platform Software, Operating System and Infrastructure Software.
 
 
- Extensive “C” language skills - Hands on debugging skills using GDB
 
- Knowledge on Linux (kernel / drivers / journal ling file systems).
 
- Working knowledge on L2 (VLAN technology) and programming of Broadcom / Marvel Switch sets (DESIRABLE)
 
- Hands on Linux shell scripting / sed / awk
 
 
  
 Test Engineer Position:
 
 
 
QUALIFICATION:
Shall have 2 - 6 Yrs experience with hands-on Unix/Linux/RTOS Operating Systems.
Shall have core expertise in Linux/Unix Kernel and thorough understanding about Operating Systems Prinicples.
Shall have hands-on with L2/L3 IP Switches, and required to be thorough in Networking knowledge.
Shall have be able to Generate Automation & Regression Test suites with minimal guidance in Linux/Unix Environments.
Strong Scripting Experience ( Perl, Expect, TCL/TK, Python etc… ) and Programming expertise with “C” is must.
Shall have experience in deriving test cases by understanding the SRS, Functional and Design Specs.
Experience with Cluster Environment or Embedded Experience is an added advantage.
